On Sunday, Jan 31, Vance Stevens was invited to give a presentation for the ICT4ELT EVO session. As they were focusing on contrasting blog and wiki tools that week, the talk was about how Vance sets up and manages Learning2gether using the wiki here,

The discussion was about how blogs and wikis are used in conjunction with one another to sustain Learning2gether all these years, so it was basically about the affordances of each that allow them to work in tandem.

The second annual Student Technology Conference, a free one-day online event bringing together students, educators and innovators from around the world, will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 9 Am to 9 Pm EST. We invite all to attend!

The Student Technology Conference provides an international forum for the presentation, discussion and sharing of educational technology in schools and other academic settings. This conference, by students in grades 6-12 as well as colleges and universities and for all, is committed to:

  • Fostering a better understanding of how students use technology in education and to engage students, teachers and administrators in a conversation about technology.
  • Assisting teachers and administrators in understanding how students use technology both in and out of the classroom.
  • Strengthening the relationship between students, teachers and administrators about technology in the curriculum.

Last year’s conference featured more than twenty general sessions and four keynote addresses from all over the world with over 500 participants!

If you haven’t joined us before, this is an amazing, engaging, collaborative, worldwide event that you will want to be a part of. You can join us for just for one session, or for every session! Even if you miss a session, they are all recorded so you can watch them later!

Thorsten Groß works at the Ricarda Huch-Schule in Dreieich where he and his students use Minecraft in Working Communities. During a BarCamp about Games the idea of reconstructing their whole school was planned and later on finished by students themselves using Mahara as an organization platform,

Our EVO Minecraft MOOC group was guided through the world by students at the school who were most active builderrs and got some explanation how the students organized themselves to build it. Thorsten explained how the BarCamp initiated the whole thing, but the main part was with the three main constructors who described what they learned during the construction, presenting a basic evidence of their learning.

“Well, what a tour today. For one hour Maxim, Tabish and Florian guided Vance, Jeff and some MOOC-participants through this school building, explaining how it has been assembled from the ground plot to the final cut. With some photos (of both the reality and virtual snapshot) we described how the scaling worked and the students build the yellow rotunda, just to blast it with TNT (students humor). The students also talked about their problems like doubling the ground floor to implement redstone lines or separating the 16 workers in groups to work on several small construction sites. A flight around the building and a long walk through its interior gave a good impression of the detailed work. My personal highlight: several person’s avatars standing  in front of my (virtual) office room at the school. 😉

Thanks to Maxim, Florian and Tabish for this really impressive tour!! Also thanks to Vance and Jeff for their technical support! This event has given us a further impact on our activities to come in May 25./26. this year.”

Here below is my view from above the glass ceiling, which Filip crashed through in order to allow us all to escape the maze when someone inadvertently left clicked on the track and broke it, rendering the ride inoperable, and leaving us confused and trapped inside the building with no logic gates to open the doors to let us out. The adults in the party didn’t know what to do, but Filip, 12 years old, did the obvious and flew up to break the glass ceiling, ushering us to safety.

We are energized and excited to return after our winter break with our Annual Anniversary Celebration. In this first webinar of the New Year we will be celebrating our 7th Anniversary on Classroom 2.0 LIVE as well as holding an Open Mic show on a topic all of us feel passionate about—professional development! We chose this topic because we felt it was broad enough to include everyone whether you participate in PD either f2f or virtually or provide PD opportunities. (conferences-f2f & virtual, EdCamps, webinars, videos/blog posts, etc.) Join us, take the mic and share your PD experiences, resources and advice about what works… what doesn’t… what are some options, etc. Bring your ideas, resources, and questions! Paula Naugle will facilitate the conversation and we hope you’ll come prepared to share with your headset/earbuds on to take the mic and add to the conversation. We’ll have an awesome Livebinder prepared with professional development resources and will look forward to adding your resources to the Livebinder.

On Sunday Jan 03 Learning2gether kicked off the new year 2016 with Benjamin Stewart who introduced us to his Academic Writing Workshop for EFL/ESL educators

What is this about? 

In this session, Benjamin Stewart introduces a five-day workshop beginning January 11, 2016, to be conducted face to face with on-site participants in Mexico via the wiki here:

There, and at the Google+ event page for this event, Benjamin poses the question: As an EFL/ESL educator, what issues do you face? Participants of this workshop will be asked to develop a thesis around this essential question as they develop an argument with supporting claims and logical reasoning patterns.
