Dave’s abstract:

The arrival of both virtual reality headsets and of remotely controlled personal robots presents an interesting step forward for teaching and learning.  This talk will touch on some of the possibilities and hurdles along this path.

On Sunday, Nov 8, 1500 UTC, Learning2gether met David Winet to catch him previewing the presentation he is giving officially on Nov 14 at the CATESOL Conference in Anaheim, California
http://www.catesol.org/2015_annual_conference.aspx. In this presentation, Dave speculated on some strikingly interesting affordances to education of Virtual Reality Headsets and Robots for Teaching and Learning.

We were joined by Vanessa Vaille in the HoA and by Peggy George, Rita Zeinstejer, and Maha Abdelmoneim in the Chatwing text chat, http://chatwing.com/vancestev.

There is mention in our chat logs of Google Cardboard, which David showed us, with a cell phone inside running an app that split the screen in such a way that each split could be seen through Cardboard by one eye, creating a 3D effect, as with the old Viewmaster some of us used to have as kids. This has been exploited by the NY Times, as reported in this article, NYT VR: How to Experience a New Form of Storytelling From The Times:
(thanks to John Hibbs for calling our attention to this link)
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/08/magazine/nyt-vr-how-to-experience-a-new-form-of-storytelling-from-the-times.html

Next day, Vanessa pointed us to an interesting take on VR by Brian Alexander, who checked out the NY Times VR project, http://bryanalexander.org/2015/11/09/impressions-of-new-york-times-vr/. Vanessa mentioned our hangout in a comment there. In reply to her comment, i said, “We liked the idea, shown in one of the videos, of a robot whose face is that of a learner as in a Skype call, interacting in the space through which the robot is moving, or instead of building worlds in Second Life for immersive education, sending a robot or drone or tiny camera (as in optical surgery) into the real location where the learner can view the panorama by turning his/her head. The potential would suggest a quantum development for POV (point-of-view) technology in learning, as reality checks noted in this post are worked through.”

Where? Google+ Hangout on Air:

Text chat copy pasted from Chatwing

you’re back
Do you have your Google Glass handy? It would be great to show it along with the other VR/AR novelties.
Good morning from Phoenix AZ. Planning to join you for this session. 🙂
Will you be talking about Google Cardboard? I just bought mine. 🙂
Yes.
I lost the HOA.
Hooray 🙂 Thanks!
Hi George
I bought 3 of them to share at CATESOL next week 🙂
checked in at the hangout — nothing there but Vance’s blurred face
Hi V – starting a bit late. We’ll get there 🙂
we’re about to start
figured as much David — these are early for you in CA
Seeing the stream now 🙂
great Peggy, thanks for joining us
Hi Vance!
I remember the ViewMaster 🙂
Just learned about the new ViewMaster
wish I could afford Google glass
love Google Cardboard!!! can’t wait to start using mine.
I bought one when I was in the USA because I had a US mail drop and a US credit card, both necessary to purchase
this is the one I bought http://eightones.com/vrkit/
does Google Cardboard work with other things or just youtube videos? still learning!
I have two screens open so I can view the stream without scrolling up and down for the chat 🙂
me too I have the chatwing in a separate window
thanks for answering my question.
hi, all, listening on YouTube 😉
love getting this preview! Thanks Dave!
excellent! seeing your notes now!
that’s a great resource! Can’t wait to explore the links. Thank you!
some people say they get really dizzy trying to use the 3D viewmaster. have you found that to be a problem?
Interesting new developments with educational/ESL implications: immersive, dynamic (not stills) headsets, head turning, walking, immersive audio, AR overlay, robots.
yes there were lots of Minecraft sessions at ISTE this year. very popular.
did you try out the occulus rift there?
no I haven’t tried oculus rift. Know very little about it. Can you tell us more?
that’s really amazing! just like being there!
OCULUS
(Oculus Rift gaming)
(Ocuslus Rift virtual rooms)
thanks for the links to the sample videos!
which link?
the one above
great idea! put your mic up to the video
that’s hilarious and very creative!
Right? 🙂
love it!!
that would be a fun way to learn vocabulary 🙂
is this in SL or something else?
yes I can see point D
highlighted in pink 🙂 thanks
This is the link he’s reading from
that’s really incredible that the game can respond to your answers virtually!
how prohibitive are prices or cost of any of this at the moment?
TEACHER-LED
(Google Expeditions – 3D VR synched with teachers unit for guided tours – go to minute 8:17)
does Google Cardboard work with AR triggers like you find on Aurasma or Quiver?
this is very promising that education is at the forefront this time
the Google Cardboard was very affordable. I think I paid $18. on Amazon. Bought several for grandkids for Christmas 🙂
the cardboard is good enough to have an idea until the technology is a bit more established 🙂
ah yes Vance! That makes sense. The phone inside Cardboard would have to be the reader.
then point it at the trigger 🙂 great idea!
exactly Vance! perfect entry point! and it’s true you can build your own
sounds like the cardboard may be affordable, but the connections and devices that constitute affordance add up
free google cardboard
for classrooms
which is more expensive in remote rural areas
I watched something about virtually reality world if I am not mistaken
something to do with FB may be?
where you get an avatar and watch movies with others
not to mention often more expensive, especially if you don’t institutional affiliation. I don’t have that or a cell phone but traded off long distance for wi-fi access. That adds up
you have to be a new subscriber to NY Times
to get the Google Cardboard
no this is sincked
it is something that was released a couple of days ago
let me search it
synched that is 🙂
exactly! incentive to get subscribers
thank you so much for all the information 🙂
cheaper to buy it–one time purchase 🙂 subscription to NY Times is expensive over time.
true that!
thank you so much Dave! very informative and I can’t wait to explore your videos and resources on the doc!
I like my young avatar to be she’s the younger me
🙂
very funny Vanessa!!!
can you contact me at david.winet@gmail.com for further discussion?
a doll that represents me not how I look
I am Olivetree Lighthouse there 🙂
Nice Maha! 🙂
Bron Stuckey is one of my favorite people!
Vance, thanks for hosting such interesting webinars/conversations!
Vance I’ll be at the conference for your 300th but lI’ll watch it on Youtube.
Thank you so much Davis and Vance 🙂
thanks again everyone, look for the archve in a day or two athttp://learnng2gether.net
will there be an archive for the EVO Training? I’m trying to follow that even if not in the G+ community
Great webinar! My browser crashed right at the end but we can view the recording again. 🙂
yes Vanessa! There were some great Makerspace presentations on the K12 Online Conference this year. 🙂
here is something

There is a note attached to this video on YouTube

This video is unlisted. Be considerate and think twice before sharing.

This session was originally planned as an introduction to Bb Collaborate. However, It was switched at the last minute to Hangout on Air because the grant from LearningTimes for use of the Webheads Room expired Oct 31. This was discovered Sat night Nov 7 in USA and there seemed little hope of having the grant renewed in time for the Nov 8 event, so we set up the HoA instead. However, 2 hours after Learning Times were contacted, Hope Kandel got back to us that she had renewed the grant for our continued free use of this facility for another year. That was midnight her time, great response from our sponsor company
http://www.learningtimes.com.

So we had acted too quickly to get the HoA in place, but having done that, we went with it. For this reason, there were two events scheduled for this session:

Find that HoA and its Chatwing chat space here:

http://evo-training.pbworks.com/w/page/102766792/week2live

Who:

Lead Coordinator Mbarek Akaddar

with members of the EVO Coordination Team;

all EVO moderators are invited to join the HoA

and all interested parties are welcome to follow on the stream and participate in the live chat at

http://cloud.chatwing.com/nina.liakos

This was the original announcement for the Bb Collaborate event

This event has been set up at the convenience of EVO moderators and has been registered in the Webheads Room calendar here
http://www.brownbearsw.com/cal/eslhome_conferen

Events posted in that space are by definition open to all who wish to attend.

As a condition for using the Webheads room, bookings must be made on the calendar, and as it says on that calendar:

“Items on this calendar are assumed to be open (OER) educational events. Posting here implies that other educators are welcome to attend.”

Thanks are due to http://www.learningtimes.com for an ongoing grant to Webheads in Action, and by extension Learning2gether, CALL-IS,and EVO for free and open use for educational purposes of this Bb Collaborate meeting room

Anita Adnan is an ELT and ICT  Consultant

In this presentation, I will illustrate how i have been doing my online work from basically anywhere – at home, from a coffee shop, at the airport and even in a moving bus! Abundant Wifi connections and mobile broadband have made this possible and all busy moms should learn the art of managing this approach to work. I will be sharing some of the tools and applications that i have used – and provide some reviews on them.

Talk Abstract: This presentation will describe how the World Health Organization took an award-winning experiential learning course that takes place on a bus traveling down the “cold chain” for time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products in Turkey, and moved it online as an award-winning authentic tasks-based experiential learning environment. This conversion was driven by the application of educational design research (also known as design-based research). Similarities and differences in the objectives of the two courses as well as of the learning activities, tools, and technologies deployed in two courses will be illustrated. The presentation concludes with examples of design principles that can be applied to the design of other online experiential learning environments.

Learning2gether Episode 298 – Sun Nov 1 1400 UTC Week 1 EVO moderator training meet and greet

Electronic Village moderators for the EVO 2016 sessions met online in a revolving-door Hangout on Air (HoA) for a meet-and-greet to kick off the new round of EVO moderator training. Mbarek Akaddar provided an overview of the training session, and Nina Liakos talked about why moderator training is important for experienced moderators and new moderators alike. The general public were welcome to attend and share ideas and questions by listening in the stream and interacting with moderators in the hangout and other participants in real-time in our Chatwing chat space
http://chatwing.com/vancestev.

This was billed as a good opportunity to meet next year’s moderators and learn firsthand about what will be on offer when EVO opens for registration on Jan 3, 2016.

The event was organized as follows:

All interested colleagues were welcome to join us in the stream and synchronous text chat

2015-11-03_0632nov01watched

Where: Google Hangout on Air

EVO16 moderators were able to get the direct HoA link at the
EVO 2016 Moderators Google+ Community page here
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/107830017755934786294

EVO moderators were able to use that link to join us in the Hangout, ten at a time.
(only ten participants are allowed to join a HoA at a given moment, but we intended to play musical chairs with the seating and show how we can cater to many participants in the HoA itself, and in the stream and real-time text chat)

(To better understand the process – read, or at least look at  the pictures, here

Hello Nina
Coding is in
Paul I just authorized you to join the wiki
Hello Nina, Vance and everyone
Yes Maha, you need to have two tabs open, one for chat other from video if you cannot open embeded video in the site.
I just wanted to show my enthusiasm for EVO. I’ve been a participant for years and it has always contributed to my development. I look forward to the learning how to contribute to it next year by helping in the moderation of Minecraft EVO with Vance, Marijana, Barbie, Jeff, Tamas and others. I gotta go now. I’ll be watching the recording and catching up.
I took a scripting course for SL building in 2008 at Muvenation with other webheads like Evelyn
Rose, thank you so much for dropping by! We’ll post the recording link ASAP
Hi Nellie
Hi Janet, John, Nellie, Rose and the rest
I am also watching youtube livestream :-0
🙂
Yes, me too
Hi everyone
Hi Marijana!!!
I prefer to use google chat but I’m fine here, too 🙂
and Nellie!!
Hi Janet
happy to use this
waves
Edmodo is very popular social network among many primary teachers in Croatia as well
It’s tricky to have so many places to chat
I went for tons of scripting courses in SL but they were mostly too theoretical for me
welcome sue:)
Hi Nellie
hi Hazel
This chat stays around forever, but the chat in the hangout vanishes when the hangout closes
I think it would be much better if two or 3 work together while experimenting with scripts
good to see you
Hi Hazel 🙂
hi Maha, appreciate your comment, scripting and building are great skills though
CLIL–content and language integrated learning
Hi Heike, Nellie, NIna, Janet 🙂
hugs Sue
I will leave the call and listen in to let someone else in
oh Absolutely Heike it is something that I love to learn and play with
we will focus on creating language games in virtual environments
was just saying that thee are better ways of doing it and it always depends on how individuals like to learn
There seem to be 2 spaces in the hangout
Hi Sue, everyone!!
The hangout URL is in our mods’ google+ community
this group of moderators is a most amazing group

Yes, indeed
Machina sounds awesome! I really want to take this EVO myself.
I’ll repeat. Great to see you, Heike. I missed you.
Hi Janet
I don’t HANGOUT … I am from SECOND LIFE
Hi Heike, lovely to see you here
Hi Nellie. We keep finding each other online 🙂
Hi aka Hazel
I found that a course on basic programming liek the one using scratch offered in Coursera or Edx is very useful to jumpstart learning how to script
Lots of places in the HoA now
Hi Karen!
scratch is great, Maha
Hi Karin
This Teachers as Designers team is AWESOME. I am happy to be their mentor
World Wide Moderator Teams
Very globally focussed
Yes, that’s what I love about EVO

We are keeping you busy Marijana to say nothing of your 2 other sessions
Shame, Marijana,

Young Learners
good time to grab a place in the HoA
Vera is here, she will be next
LOL Janet, I am so busy this year. You don’t want to know!
Yes, I do, lol!!! You are incredible 🙂
I actually thought CLIL is something for non-English teachers, like Math or Science teachers, Geography teachers etc.
@Nina you mean two session I will moderating or the one I am mentring
marijana moderating 2, mentoring 1
too much to consider moderating a 3rd
Wow, very busy people @Nina
yes, am mentoring one of Nellie’s 🙂 LOL
No kidding – I don’t know how they do it
Nellie doesn’t need a whole lot of mentoring

Amazing, really…
can we see the bigger picture ?
of person talking ?
Vance’s note – This was my mistake. I had clicked on the icon of one participant in the chat to mute that person and had inadvertently SELECTED that person’s icon to display until I noticed it much later, and clicked again to release it so that the current speaker would display. I wish I had seen this note at the time, but the chatwing chat was scrolling by much too fast. In any event, well noted, Hazel! Apologies …
Can’t wait to work with MM7 as well Nellie. 🙂
Not in the youtube stream, Hazel, only in the hangout
Moodle for Teacher is my mentoring session. I am so much looking forward to it as I really want to learn more about Moodle even though I have a Certificate from CRO Moodle Platform
You can go back there though
okay thanks Nina
MM4 T is a super session, I learned so much when I did it twice in the past 🙂
I mentored them last year and it was interesting learning about Moodle, which I had never used before
There is lots of room in the hangout, I encourage you to jump in there
Moodle is a great platform to work on
Prof Curt Bonk is incredible, a great speaker!!
Moodle was always a confusing platform for me but I find it very intersting lately
Bravo, Mbarek!
I’m doing one of Nellie’s courses on Moodle. Seems very user friendly
Thanks Paul 🙂

Paul, why don’t you join the hangout?
You will love it, @Sue
The book is fantastic!!
Thx Nellie

Join

(This link is corrected from what Nina posted originally in the chat)
Daniela and I will be presenting at Nellie’s Moodle Mooc on 28th Nov. as well 😉
This is our g+community for evo mods
TEC Variety is the book by Curt Bonk and co
Awesome, Letizia
and Letizia will be presenting at SLanguages.org
I am also presenting for Nellie on 22 November about Kahoot and Socrative online testing tools
15 Nov
Interesting!
Yes SLanguages with Andrea on 15th Nov 🙂
isnt this amazing to have 16 EVO sessions this year?

I don’t know where you all find so many hours in the day 🙂
Yes, a healthy crop of proposals, a nice mix of old and new
it’s the Web now Vance
Sorry @NIna and @Vance, I have to go now, as mentioned before I could only stay for approx 30 mins as other commitments shortly. It’s been great and will catch up with recording later…

Google translates the time for me all the time 🙂
I don’t know either Sue, I think a day isn’t long enough for all this
Lol @Marijana
Yes, Maha, for me too, esp. for HOA
Thanks so much for this session, and hope to see everyone in the EVO MOderators G+ community later 🙂
Tata Janet and thanks for coming
Bye!!!, my pleasure NIna, it’s been great!!
so Mbarek is gong to talk about Trello on MM7
Bye Janet!
so happy to meet all of you here!
Will it be recorded Nellie? have an IATEFL BEsig webinar to host in 20 mins.
I am looking forward to Mbarek’s talk, as Trello still gives me headaches, but I do find it useful

excellent
but I think you will make it
by the way if you’re interested in writing or creating anything on the Web or learn about it I’d like to invite you to check Digital Writing Month that starts today
http://www.digitalwritingmonth.com/2015/10/31/lets-launch-digiwrimo-your-month-your-goals/
The opening is in 1,28 hours and Curt Bonk is in 2.28 hours
Vance’s note – See the next item in this post for the link to the WizIQ recording and mp3 rendition of Curt’s presentation on the world of MOOCs
I think he was in Dubai around 2000
okay. should just about manage then
cool to have participants certificates
John Graney is waiting to talk, we have lots of places for the next speaker

The problem we had with Trello is that we did not seem to be able to keep the planning there without also interacting there, which made it difficult to go back to conversations. For me, at least
so Mbarek is gong to talk about Trello on MM7
Here are the webinars for MM7 in November
vera is still there, we’ll go to her next if we can (then John)
We had a lot of motivated participants last year at ICT4ELT because we gave badges
It was a bit difficult to follow, but we made it and it was really successful
Aiden Yeh
Dafne Gonzalez

Thank you Heike!
Thanks, Nina. I learned a lot last year from the experienced moderators.
They are a precious resource for all of us, John
Good advice, Nellie!
Sounds like it could be somewhat distracting
to drive and talk to your mobile phone
I want to encourage colleagues to participate in EVO and am prepping information posts for my blogs. Until I know more about 2016 offerings, I’ll refer to past sessions. btw a friend and colleague in Texas has been working with DREAMers and refugees. I’m trying to interest her too, especially since her group is involved in education.
We will post the recording link as well as this link for those who were unable to be here, in the Week 1 page of evo-training.pbworks.com
thanks Vanessa
I’m not a moderator but intend to follow the training and would like to join the community
thanks Nina
Use the Google + Community to communicate with us during the training!
(This link is corrected from what Nina posted originally in the chat)
the CfP deadline is past so still having that on the front page might be confusing to some visitors. A “what to expect” post might be more useful

Presented by: Dr. Nellie Deutsch @ Integrating Technology

Curt bonk astounded his audience with a litany facts and data as he went on for almost two hours on the fascinating and ellusive subject of MOOCs. In the process he reviewed his new book and special journal issue on “MOOCs and Open Education,” discussed what is happening around the world in terms of MOOCs and open education, as well as the co-editing process, how to coordinate projects, the steps in editing a book and special issues, and whatnot, for a mind boggling hour and 50 minutes.

Moodle MOOC 7 (MM7) is scheduled to take place from November 1 – 30,  2015 on Moodle for Teachers. The purpose of the MOOC is to connect for instruction and learning, reflective practice, social and collaborative learning, cultural exchange and peace, personal and professional development, community building, best practices and challenges involved in teaching with technology, student engagement with the content, peers, and the facilitator, and learning to teach online with Moodle course and learning management system.

MM7 includes webinars and Moodle training. The presenters of the webinars will focus on connecting online for collaborative learning and teaching with technology, education technology, professional development, and topics that pertain to teaching and learning online and/or on mobile devices/smartphones.

The Moodle training will take place on Moodle for Teachers (M4T) Moodle website and will focus on active learning, reflection, sharing, and collaboration. The aim of the course is for the participants to learn through meaningful connections and social interactions. Participants, who wish to receive a certificate of participation, will be required to document their learning experiences by keeping a blog, wiki, website, or any other artifact that will include a description and reflection of the live sessions and/or recordings.

The Moodle training will include Moodle, Google Drive Docs, blogs, Google Apps, Mobile Devices, Virtual Classes, and other online learning environments for face-to-face, blended, and fully online learning. In addition, participants will learn to use Movenote, Screencast-o-matic, PresentMe, SlideSpeech, Plotagon, Smore, Quizlet, eMaze, Slideshare, Evernote, Movenote, and other technologies for effective and engaging student-based activities. The live presentations will include the speakers’ reflective process on teaching and learning in fully online and blended learning formats.

Meanwhile …

Nellie Deutsch‎ has created Moodle MOOC 7 on Facebook

Instead of having a Moodle MOOC group or face for each Moodle MOOC, I thought it may be more practical to have one group for all the Moodle MOOCs around the world. So spread the word and join educators, technology developers, and Moodlers for the next Moodle MOOC in the month of November on Moodle for Teachers for free teacher development and training on how to teach and learn online using Moodle and other technologies. Mon Oct 19-25 International Facilitation Week Unconference

International Facilitation Week takes place next week, October 19-25. And for the third year in a row, we’re putting together a little online unconference to share and learn about facilitation in virtual environments:

We’re changing the funding model a little bit this year, charging participants a small amount.

However, we know that a good number of original innovators, super early adopters and veterans of this work can still be found on this very Yahoo group, and we would really love to have you join us. Please use discount code “Oldschool” for $15 off the regular price.  😉

Normally L2g does not post announcements of commercial events here, but because of the nature of this “unconference” I posted a request for more information on the Yahoo Group that sent the announcement

Mon Oct 19 thru Oct 30 –  Virtually Unstoppable – K12 Online Conference presentations released

The K12 Online conference is an asynchronous event where the presentations are set-piece artifacts created by some of the world’s greatest teachers on topics they are passionate about. Quality is quite high and they generally model best practices not only in pedagogy but in presentation and innovative use of ed-tech tools. The presentations are released according to the schedule here,

http://k12onlineconference.org/2015-schedule/ starting with the keynote, Don Wettrick and Innovation class students

The conference goes full swing the following week, same time on Oct 19 with the release of three to five presentations a day for the next two weeks, winding up with the release of the last batch at 8:00 AM EDT, Fri., Oct. 30

To find out how you can participate, visit the K-12 Online blog at http://k12onlineconference.org/

You’ll find information in the sidebar there on how to participate; e.g. the helpful FAQ athttp://k12onlineconference.org/first-timers/

Vance’s “take”

I recently attended the ISTE conference in Philadelphia, which is a huge showcase of best practices and most appropriate technologies for enabling those practices displayed in a massive physical space. K12 Online is the free annual conference that many of those in and around ISTE participate in each year, also to showcase best practices leveraged by technology, but in a virtual space. And it is happening now.

The first K12 Online Conference took place in 2006 so this would be the tenth, which is one reason it’s theme this year is “Virtually Unstoppable.”  There are several very unique aspects to K12 Online, and one of these is that it is totally asynchronous. This means that you don’t have to show up at a particular time for it, but that its presentations are simply made available at a certain time. This is another unique aspect of the conference, the presentations are released bit by bit, day by day. For example, this is the third day of the conference, and three presentations were released today (for a total of 9 so far, plus a keynote, which was posted online a week ago.

Another unique aspect of this conference has to do with the fact that its presenters have to produce attractive and inspiring artifacts designed to play out online, much as we might ideally ask our students to do. The presentations are not long, 10-20 minutes, but tend to model the most creative techniques the presenters can muster.  As such each presentation is a digital story with a message designed as an incubator of ideas that will appeal to teachers, and in turn, their students.

The presentations introduce how cutting edge technologies might relate to our classrooms. And you can have a look now or later, as you wish, even years later. All such artifacts produced over the past ten years are archived at the conference website. There are many gems in that archive, and because they bring technology to bear on perennial issues in teaching, how to engage and motivate and make students and teachers want to learn, they tend to be eternally relevant today.

Here is how you can participate: The website is here: http://k12onlineconference.org/

And you can overview the presentations and topics here: http://k12onlineconference.org/2015-schedule/

Here are two ways you can participate:

This is one of my favorite recurring online conferences, and a good opportunity for teachers with iPads and mobile devices to network and boost their mastery of those devices as pertains to practice and pedagogy.

Learning2gether with Jeff Magoto about the new ANVILL-LTI

Learning2gether Episode 297

Download mp3:
https://learning2gether.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/2015oct18anvill-64k.mp3?
On Sunday Oct 18 Learning2gether were treated to a nearly-two hour tour of ANVILL-LTI by its managing developer Jeff Magoto, who talked to us about

Interactions in ANVILL from the Formulaic to the Pragmatically Pleasing

ANVILL-LTI is web-based software that has three aims: 1) to provide language teachers with a set of speech and lesson creation tools that make it easy to practice and assess spoken language, 2) to build a community of teachers who are willing to share their lessons and ideas around listening and speaking, and 3) to understand (from a CALL developer’s perspective) what kinds of computer-based interactions teachers and students find most beneficial and interesting. We explored these by looking at some of the most popular tasks teachers assign in ANVILL—from telecollaborations to listen n’ repeat, and the results those tasks yield.

ANVILL is a free and versatile LMS that focuses on allowing learners to interact in voice with teachers and each other in a tastefully designed flipped learning environment. That environment is succinctly defined in a 10-page manual available here, http://babel-old.uoregon.edu/ylc/downloads/anvill-LTI%20overview-v.3.pdf;  with a page each devoted to ANVILL’s main features (voiceboards, portfolios, chat, and integration with other LMS’s such as MOODLE).

This screen shot was made at a point where most participants who attended the Bb Collaborate event online were present. They are shown in the detachable participants list, above)

Time: 9:00am PT/10:00am MT/11:00am CT/12:00pm ET
Location: Blackboard Collaborate (http://tinyurl.com/cr20live)

As an extension to the Classroom 2.0 Ning community, Classroom 2.0 “LIVE” shows are opportunities to gather with other educators in real-time events, complete with audio, chat, desktop sharing and closed captioning. We are very excited to have Jennifer Garcia joining us as our special guest presenter on Saturday, October 17, for her presentation: “Green Screens + iPads = iMagic!” She will be sharing projects her students have done using green screens on the iPads with DoInk’s Green Screen App. We’ll get a guided tour of the entire process including setup, equipment, apps, workflow, assessment strategies and possible issues to be aware of. We’ll also get to see a few examples of her student work and have access to the online lessonsshe created to help you as you build your own projects. We’ll also get to see some examples from other teachers along with their resources. This will be most beneficial to teachers who have access to iPads in their classrooms, but it’s always exciting to learn about tools, apps and the possibilities for enhancing digital story telling with any tools you may have access to and we would welcome participants willing to share the tools and project examples for digital storytelling projects you are using in your classrooms.

Chat logs from Chatwing

Vance, You’ve messaged that today we have more chats,
are they before or after?
Hi, sorry I didn’t check here yesterday. There was an IATEFL YLSIG event on Sunday, and today Monday we are meeting with Dr. Christel Broady in Hangout, more information here http://tinyurl.com/learning2gether or athttp://webheadsinaction.org/live
That starts in about half an hour
Christel is in the Hangout now. You are welcome to join us there, we start in ten minutes:https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/hoaevent/AP36tYf56YrJcTErVcePnTocXFvC5PtGqArFetAP5iFM4WG6gOj9iw?hl=en&authuser=0
Hello all!
Seems OK for me here …ouf
(in chrome)
Looks good in Chromium (linux)…
I find there’s quite a few things that don’t work in Chrome …. I daren’t go linux 😦
Removing barriers for me means making learning more equitable…
hi everyone
Hi Maha, nice to see you
I tried to join but it takes me to an empty hangout where I am on my own 🙂 .. I will watch and comment here 🙂
thanks Vance I am happy I could join
We saw you in the Hangout
Love forms in Google Drive!
…for polls, instant feedback in class, etc.
I love forms for the students to write comprehension questions … they love it
🙂 me too
The links are ab fab – I’ve made my own copy to be sure I don’t loose them …. big thanks
Are MGuhlin and CloudHQ free?
I think MGuhlin is a blog
Miguel Guhlin, a K-12 blogger
Google drive integrates well with gmail as well…
the hangout is a bit slow for me I think . I couldn’t even hear anything. But I am good here .. good place to participate with you 🙂
HOA is fine at this end…
great, ahlan
I like spanning my google drive: https://freetools.spanning.com/stats/
we’ll get you to explain that in a moment in the Hangout
Yes Dr Christel, I have had many Teachers say that to me too! I use Google drive sharing documents or folders with my students.
Using Google drive to flip the classroom…
People who are afraid of these tools often do their banking on line (and belong FB)
Sharing documents as long as they are CC or one has rights to do so.
Google Drive also integrates well with Google Sites…
Sharing documents and videos is what I do too!
Hi Vance 🙂
Hi Nives, glad you could join us
Sometimes it’s easier to share videos in Google drive rather than Youtube which is not accessible to all students. Plus I love creating Lesson slides directly in the drive and adding it to the class materials folder for students to access whenever.
Google docs are good for student collaborative projects…
lol yes but how big of a loss .. That must’ve been really awful to loose years worth of work
I am disappointed that Google Classroom is not available for Private Tutoring or Teacher Training 😦
Me too Nives!
I usually backup what I really care about and I don’t usually trust the cloud alone
It’s such a great tool (Google Classroom) that it’s a dying shame that Google have such strict access to it.
yes me too Nives 😦
@Benjamin and @Maha 🙂
Interesting about videos … I wonder if that’s only with Classroom, because I did try once unsuccessfully
Also, Google Sites!
another one to tell us about, feel free to grab the mic, speak up when you hear ‘next
Social apps in schools is a bit touchy here in Italy, but using sites like Twiducate is safe and private offering social interaction without the public interaction. I’m looking at EdMettle too for the same, has anyone tried it?
feel free to comment on this, or ask in the live h/a
HoA
OMG – I’ve lost the sound altogether now (on my super duper brand new machine ) so I’m giving up all together – please say a BIG thanks for all the great links …. very useful indeed.
oooh this is great.. I’ve been trying to do this but couldn’t see how.. thank you
I agree…all teachers should have a YouTube channel.
thanks Elizabeth, your thanks will be in the show notes
I like Google Maps too for a class on ‘directions’ in English language. I get the students to create their own location and give directions in a dialogue.
what do you use to leave comments on a non apple computer?
Great idea a ‘photo story’ with photos, thank you Dr Christel 🙂
in what application, Maha?
Maha, are you asking about Google Docs?
Docs
What system are you running Maha?
windows 7
I insert comments into Google Docs from PC, Ctrl-alt-m
As far as I know Maha, leaving comments in Google Docs is the same for all operating systems…
ok thank you both I will try them later 🙂
I select the text, then right-click…
Or click “Insert”, then “comment”…
Hm this looks interesting for Reading Comprehension must give it a try … thanks 🙂
voice comments Benjamin?
I agree using images to express or expand their vocab is a great tool even with adult learners not just kids
Great Idea picture dictionaries for beginners
Vance is the expert on voice comments…I think there is an addon or extension, right?
You can enter comments by voice using android and tablet devices
Thanks for the link to the slides Vance 🙂
What slide are we on Vance??
ah android ok thanks
Hi Brian 🙂 nice to see you here
slide 26
Brian it’s slide 29
Got it now
Hi Brian
I have installed that Ben but for some reason couldn’t do voice in my doc. will try again
Hi Nives
thanks
Hi Vance
IATEFL SIG Bi-Monthly Webinars 2015-2016
Waiting for explanation on how to create schedules for webathones alco chains of events
U r welcome Brian 🙂
uh oh, connection lost and call ended
Google Docs addons I use: Consistency Checker, EasyBib, Kaizena, and Thesaurus…
Yes hear you Christel 🙂
I’m looking at slides on my google docs
Brian move to slide 31
Google Drive = transparent education
@Benjamin I agree
But they want to learn free
Thanks all for a great chat! Off to class!
ciao @Benjamin enjoy your class
have a great day Benjamin
I like the reference of the Backchannel chat to ‘digital brother’ Dr Christel
I keep dropping out
I think it may still be recording
yes I hear you
it’s trying to reconnect
great idea 🙂 Christel
the voice is lost
can you hear now Halima?
Thank you Dr Christel, your slides are powerful as always you have so much to share it’s wonderful learning from you, thank you 🙂
Dr Christel is that Native Speaking tool only available in Classroom?
Looks like we’re back online here
is Exit ticket a written reflection?
Bravo Vance 🙂 I live with technology hassles everyday living in the Italian countryside so am glad today is going ‘great’ so far 🙂
the voice lag is back, not a good sign
yes you are online just heard you Vance
we are doing fine so far .. It may be only on your side Vance
I think it is on my side
HoA is a great tool for Teaching online, I have used it but what I really look for is an interactive whiteboard to use when tutoring students online live
I recently have used EZTalks which has a great screen sharing tool and interactive whiteboard plus it’s free for up to 3 in a session
wish you could talk with us in Hangout but your comments will appear in the show notes at http://learning2gether.net
or a quick journal or something .
Nice cat Vance
thank you I like the idea
Nives, have you tried WizIq?
Hi Glenys, yes I am currently using WizIQ as a Teacher also with Dr Nellie’s moodle team
@Glenys my problem is that sometimes WizIQ is too heavy to run on a low internet connection
I tried Wisiq and also some separate boards but for some reason they are usually buggy . even Wiziq staff told me that my bandwidth was not good enough so I usually use hangouts
@Maha I understand exactly what you mean 🙂 even if I have used WizIQ for nearly 3 years
A BIG THANK YOU DR CHRISTEL for a great presentation and magnificent very informative slides 🙂
thank you so much for all the information and resources Dr. Christel
Thank you Dr Christel for a very interesting talk
Ciao Vance, Brian, Dr Christel great to connect again online 🙂
Thank You Dr.Christel!!!
I think she is talking about the webenthons
how to design something for her university
I agree it is wonderful to connect across the globe 🙂
you’re breaking up a bit Vance
anyone can join us for the NileTESSOL ? 🙂
yes thank you all again thanks a lot Vance for organizing it
have a good day/evening
Christel asked me to share links on how to set up these hangouts. Jamie’s areas of interest include the use of visual materials, storytelling and video technologies in the classroom. His publications include ‘Images’ (OUP 2009) and ‘Bringing online video into the classroom’ (OUP 2014).

In the last few years, online video has been embraced and reinvented by young people. In this webinar, I would like to examine a number of recent case studies which serve to introduce YouTube youth cultures to teachers. Be warned – you may be shocked! I will also talk about why understanding this can be useful to those of us who work with teenagers.

On Saturday October 3 at 0730 UTC, 11:30 in UAE, Jim Buckingham had finally found a parking place and was heading up to his presentation room at the TESOL Arabia Chapter SIG Conference, while Vance Stevens was getting the Hangout on Air and Learning2gether spaces properly configured from his home in Al Ain, UAE.

We were planning to converge at a distance on Jim’s on-site presentation at the TESOL Arabia SIG conference in Dubai on professional development opportunities available online via TAEDTech SIG and #learning2gether. Meanwhile Chris Fry in Barcelona was waiting for the stream to start on our Google+ event page, and Halima Ozimova in Tashkent was in Chatwing waiting for me to provide the URL to the live chat. Eventually Glenys Hanson from France joined us in the HoA as well, http://www.glenys-hanson.info/

The event was billed as …

Online PD? TESOL Arabia? Discover such opportunities today

Jim Buckingham, Zayed University, UAE
Vance Stevens, HCT-CERT, UAE

This TAEdTech SIG session gives an overview of what online professional development opportunities TESOL Arabia already supports and those planned for the future. The presentation will also feature a “live” demonstration of online professional development strategies currently being used by TESOL Arabia’s Education Technology SIG with special attention placed on how these strategies are free, easy to use and available to anyone.

We were on at noon Dubai time (0800 UTC) in this program:

Nellie Deutsch was also there; she will be helping Rob mount his event from a single URL at WizIQ.  Maha Abdulmoneim and Art Oglesby were known to be in the stream

Next Sunday Oct 4 Learning2gether will be a part of the EFLTalks program, at http://efltalks.com/

EFLtalks is a non-profit mission to produce an open and free space to share advice, tips and ideas to the next generation of EFL professionals. The project mixes the ideas of a webathon with a Pecha Kucha and TED talks all into one. Real blended teaching.

For the event, celebrating World Teachers’ Day, Rob and his team will kick-off a free 10-hour marathon of mini-webinars. Each speaker will have only 10 minutes using only PowerPoint 10 slides to make their point about their subject. We will open one webinar room lasting all 10 hours so there is only one link to enter the webathon, and viewers may come and go as time permits.

Our chat wth Rob on Sept 27 was in Google+ Hangout on Air

Rob gave a talk on this topic at the Fall Blog Festival Monday Sept 21

We preserved two chat archives from this event

One was from the Hangout on Air, saved to a Google Doc

Welcome to the European Day of Languages 2015 we will celebrate on 24th September 2015. Because the 26th September is a Saturday and our school is closed that day we want to celebrate that event on the 24th September already.

This event is set up every year by the European Council in Brussels for all kind of schools in Europe to raise awareness about one common Europe community on one hand and to express the lingual diversity of all members of the EU on the other hand: “Being convinced that linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding and a key element in the rich cultural heritage of our continent, the Council of Europe promotes pluralingualism in the whole of Europe.” Fourty-seven member countries belong to this community including the islands outside the European continent which belong to the EC as well.

Here is an excerpt of text chat during this session, copied from WizIQ

Some of the conversation below has to do with the fact that Nellie set up the link to the event on the assumption that anyone could easily join without pre-registration, but when we tried to get in, the system would drop us from the event (because another unregistered person was already using that link). Some of us worked out that the way in was to register through our WizIQ accounts (in my case, in the nick of time for my session!). The chat shows where Nellie and others were dealing with the problem and helping to get people in.

Peggy: Today’s blogging event is right at the top of Vance’s page:
http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/w/page/32206114/volunteersneeded#Nextupcomingevents
Tiziana: In Italy it is 4 pm and I need to be up till late to follow a lot of events but…
it is worth doing!! It is my CPD on line
Nives: Hi Tiziana 🙂
Susan:  Aloha Everyone! Not sure how long I can be here. Bad internet and on a chromebook. Sound not very clear but slides are GREAT.
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Nives, ‘m sharing link with you
Peggy: time zones can be so confusing! I rely on timeanddate.com to help me!
Tiziana: Hi NIVES! HI PEGGY!!
Peggy: Hi Tiziana! Great to see you!
Nives: Thank you Dr Nellie
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Peggy, I also use timetable links
Nives: Brian is trying now
Peggy: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/109504049211076695836
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Nives, the link is for one person
Tiziana: Hi ! PLESED to be on line and learn from so many communities on line which are really engaging!!
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Hi Brian
Nives: Ok Dr Nellie no problem
Brian B: Hi Dr Nellie
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Let me know if your friends need a unique link to come in
Peggy: I don’t know how Vance keeps up with so many networks but he is amazing!!!!
Peggy: http://webheadsinaction.org/live
Brian B: Thanks for the link Dr Nellie
Nives: Great to see you here Brian … no idea how long this will last but let’s enjoy it while we can 🙂
Peggy: http://chatwing.com/vancestev
Tom: Nives, do not leave the session. It’s a continuous class, all day long.
Nives: There are many ways to have BackChannel chats when not all can join a HOA
Nives: Thanks for letting me know TOM 🙂
Brian B: Its taken along time to get here so I will not be leaving yet.
Peggy: http://tesl-ej.org/pdf/ej67/int.pdf
Nives: Good Brian let’s hang out here today 🙂
Peggy: Chatwing helps you to feel connected with other people in the same event 🙂
Rob Howard: Good question
Nives: Dr Nellie – what will happen with people following the Twitter or FB links which are not working ?
Nives: Hi Rob 🙂
Rob Howard: Hi Nives!
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: good question
Nives: I agree Peggy – chatting during an event in a backchannel keeps (me) motivated and engaged.
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Nives, you can tell them to register ﷯
Peggy: love that description! you know it’s working when you’re learning new things is when your practice changes 🙂
Nives: Register … I did that and it did not work…!
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Maybe the link I shared will work for them if they add their names
Peggy: yes Nives! I find that if there is no way to chat during webinars it’s easy to get up and walk away and get distracted. 🙂
Nives: Let’s hope so Dr Nellie
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: Smore is more ﷯
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: http://tinyurl.com/vance2015fbf
Peggy: Thank you Vance for all you do to bring these amazing professional learning experiences to all of us through Learning2gether!!!!!
Nives: Yes Peggy or do something else on another page and not really ‘pay attention’ just listen passively
Peggy: exactly Nives!
Nives: 🙂 @Peggy
Peggy: you can’t get the link with your name unless you register. That’s how I finally got it.
Nives: Will the recording also have the same problem Dr Nellie when trying to access it ?
Rob Howard: I hope we learn!
Peggy: good question Nives 🙂
Nives: Peggy I did register twice with 2 diverse emails and still no luck until magically it just happened…
Rob Howard: Very positive!
Nives: I think we always learn as long as we experience something, no?
Nives: Or at least I do …
Peggy: will the recordings for these sessions be separate recordings for each session or one long recording?
Peggy: sorry Nellie. Not prepared to take the microphone today.
Tom: Going to grab a cup of tea! ﷯
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: One long one and my Youtube for each one
Peggy: we did a show yesterday that was a preview of the K12 Online Conference. The recording and Livebinder links are here: http://live.classroom20.com/archive-and-resources/k12-online-conference-preview
Peggy: thanks Nellie
Peggy: what is the url for your youtube channel?
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: I think it will work, Nives
Nives: Oh good idea YouTube one for each Dr Nellie – I will rely on those recordings.
Peggy: Thank you Vance for this great presentation!
Tom: Thanks Vance! ﷯﷯﷯﷯﷯
Dr. Nellie Deutsch: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8JUcjyABKxnNx8kpdaBkmTcFEP9shyi9
Peggy: I guess Vance can’t see our chat today
Peggy: thanks Nellie!!

Peggy was right, the text chat was underneath another module in my view of the WizIQ interface and I wasn’t able to see it during the event. However, I see it now, and I certainly appreciate the nice things people said about Learning2gether 🙂

The primary goal of this whole-day event is to demonstrate the power of global connectivity in classrooms, schools, universities, and institutions of informal learning and around the world. Global Collaboration Day will introduce others to the tools, resources, projects and programs that are available to educators today. Tag:

Follow up mail to GEC Community Members –

Steve Hargadon and I are tremendously pleased with the participation for Global Collaboration Day on September 17th. Approximately 325 schools and organizations and 36 outreach partners from 51 different countries participated in 149 collaborative online events. Many projects were categorized as requiring asynchronous participation, so you may find a few are still running. Save September 15, 2016, as the official date for our next GCD!

We would like invite you to join Global Collaboration Day, our first annual demonstration of global collaboration for educators. We are encouraging students, teachers, organizations and companies to host virtual events involving technology on September 17, 2015. (And since September 17 takes nearly 48 hours to start and finish across the globe, check out the calendar in your own time zone for all the activities!)

The primary goal of this whole day event is to demonstrate the power of global connectivity in classrooms, schools, universities, and institutions of informal learning and around the world. Global Collaboration Day will introduce others to the tools, resources, projects and programs that are available to educators today. We currently have over 130 schools and organizations representing about 29 different countries; 25 outreach partners have also committed to joining this worldwide event. Approximately 52 events are listed on our site and this list is growing by the day. There is no cost to participate at any level.

Here is how people and organizations can participate:

Examples of events that are currently scheduled include a Twitter chat on global learning, an asynchronous Twitter poll on chocolate, a survey on sunlight around the world, and a class live streaming using Periscope. Many organizations are hosting webinars and other activities to introduce educators to tools, resources and programs that will help them connect their classroom to the world. We recommend that activities be simple in scope and have low barriers to entry in order to attract participants. Ideas are listed on our host page. Events can be geared towards any audience including students, teachers, parents, and organization leaders.

Our current partner list includes TES, Edmodo, Remind, AFS-USA, iEARN-USA, the Global Campaign for Education – US Chapter, SMART, VIF International Education, and Edutopia. (We would love to add your organization to this list as well.)For further information, please take a look at our website and press release. Also, check out this recent article on us from eSchool News and Lucy’s Edutopia blog post.

Thanks and we hope to hear from you regarding this special day!

We try to use Chatwing as much as possible given the nature of herding cats, so as to include people in the stream in a conversation they can participate in. However, those in the chat moved their discussion into the Hangout chat (where on my computer, I can’t copy / paste it). But Nellie Deutsch can do that, and she sent me what appears below:

Learning2gether with ELTLive and TILL – Benjamin Stewart and Piry Herrera on Office 365

Learning2gether Episode 290

Download mp3: https://learning2gether.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/learning2gether-with-elt-live-and-till-office-365-zdtrwanoglw.mp3?

On Sunday, September 6, 1400 UTC, Learning2gether joined forces with ELTLive (#eltlive http://eltlive.com), and TILL, Teachers for Interactive Language Learning, a Google+ Community with well over 3000 members, at  https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/106289715383230353120.

The topic was Office 365, a Microsoft ecosystem that provides a suite of apps for sharing Office documents online and for working on them collaboratively. There are a number of other features that facilitate the interaction between student and teachers in the online or blended environment.

We were joined by Benjamin Stewart and Piry Herrera, both colleagues and teacher-trainers at Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes in Mexico, where both use Office 365 in innovative ways. We were particularly impressed by the ideas the presenters shared for exploring the affordances of the environment with their future-teacher students in ways that were clearly modeling to them a very humanistic and engaging pedagogical approach to leveraging technology as an enabler of learning.

We noted that the university in Aguascalientes has a licence that makes possible all teachers and students to use this tool and to maintain ePortfolios for the duration of their stay at the university, but we naturally discussed what the students could do with these ePortfolios (i.e. how they could retrieve their content) when they left the Office 365 environment, and also how they could port what they were learning about Office 365 into a free web 2.0 ecosystem they might design for their own students when they go to work in less well-endowed workplaces after graduation.

Benjamin and Piry proved themselves knowledgeable presenters whom the participants in Hangout and in-stream engaged in lively dialog (via text chat in the latter case). The result was a discussion lasting around 1.5 hours, but well worth reviewing, and we hope you enjoy it.

The event had been planned with Jeff Lebow and ELTLive, but Jeff had to bow out at the last moment, rare for Jeff. However he had set up two notices at his ELTLive community spaces

Where? Google+ Hangout on Air (HoA)

Announcements

The following is copy / pasted from the Chatwing chat from this session

Good morning! Set my alarm so I could tune in although I’m not an Office 365 user. Always love to learn from Jeff and Vance! Greetings from Phoenix AZ.
I’m starting the hoa now, welcome
stream ok?
So sorry Jeff isn’t able to be with us today! But I’ll enjoy meeting Benjamin Stewart and the other people in the hangout. 🙂
Hello! Greetings from sunny Argentina!
I know but I don´t know anything about this, so I prefer to lurk
welcome if you want to comment
you know about educational philosophy 🙂
audio and video is coming through great for me! watching on youtube 🙂
always great to see you Peggy, you inspire us with your interest
Hi Peggy, ok Vance I will prob jump in later I´m taking notes like crazy right now ;))
Hi Maria! Great to see you! 🙂
so happy to see the emphasis on reflection in lesson planning for those future teachers! so important!
I noted that as well Peggy, so important!
also teacher trainers as models is critical
by using Office 365 does that make it possible for all of the students to see each other’s work so it’s not just going to the professors?
thanks for asking my question Vance! You are an excellent facilitator!
great response! once they get going further along in their training it will be a great way for them to help each other with peer feedback/suggestions realizing that is a great way to learn together. 🙂
I’m sure the students really appreciate knowing exactly when they will be observed and what the tutor will be looking for via the calendar. Great idea!
seeing the screensharing great!
Hi all. Trying to watch on my cell. Laptop is acting up these days
do the students get automatic notification of the calendar events via email?
Hi Maha!
it must give them alerts on their mobile devices, but I’ll ask
I’m really enjoying hearing about this teacher education program because I was a teacher education professor for Arizona State University for many years before I retired. 🙂
great 🙂
thanks! so exciting to see the use of mobile devices with the students! very accommodating to match them up for notifications via these devices!
seeing the screensharing now on youtube 🙂
it works well
do the students have to pay for Office 365 or is it provided by the university?
they are fortunate they have a license
it’s similar to Google Docs with office apps
lots of similarities between OneDrive and Google Drive 🙂
what is one drive?
I’m guessing office equivalent to dropbox etc?
Hi – I’m wondering if everyone can use the email from any provider – I guess they just have to use Outlook – but can it be used with a gmail fro example
you can ask that …
that is what he is showing us now
One drive is the MS online space – yep like dropbox or icloud
woops 🙂
Microsoft One Drive and One Note
🙂
I just signed up for One Note this week because Angela Maiers used it to distribute her free ebook called Liberating Genius. 🙂
I’m glad you guys are backing me up, I guess I missed it when I got up a moment to turn on the lights here
no problem!!! 🙂
How can we get Angela’s book?
One Drive seems to really help them to personalize/individualize the instruction and support for the students!
can you do about the same in Google ecosystem or are there clear affordances with Microsoft?
Last year my teacher trainers used onedrive for exchanging files – i.e. they were uploading and downloading rather than collaborating live in a Google doc!
I’m not completely clear about what the students are recording. Is it their reflection/synthesis of the lesson or is it the actual lesson being delivered in the classroom with students?
Hi Elizabeth! Welcome to the merry chat!
thanks! they are recording their sessions together to review later. Great idea!!
by having the students capture all of this documentation in One Drive throughout the program it will make it really easy for them to create a digital portfolio to use for many purposes including job searching 🙂
great question Vance!
excellent point! it’s good for students to learn multiple platforms/tools so they can move easily between them for use later when they are no longer in the program.
haha Vance! not renting this auditorium 🙂 Definitely keep going! Very informative!
yes, and be exposed to them by use them then it´s up to them to decide eventually, as usual it all depends on the teacher, right?
great use of video tutorials and announcements!
flipped learning
are we able to see his blog (Piry) or is it only for his students?
yes, we would like to have the link to Piry´s blog
I’ve asked in HoA chat, chatwing crashed Piry’s connection
thanks 🙂 I’m sure it was too much bandwidth for him along with hangout and desktop sharing 🙂
we’ve been muting our web cams to help Piry’s bandwidth
the popup is showing great for me. I changed by resolution in youtube to the highest level (720HD) in Theater Mode 🙂
would love to have his OneNote link (Benjamin) that he offered
love that transparency of sharing work and comments!
But surely the students need their own subscription? – I just checked it’s $70 / year for an individual (that’s if they want to collaborate on a document rather than just view)
can you ask, Anne?
yes @eannegrenoble I was wondering that too.
ElizabethA?
great point about the format similarities with Word online and their desktop versions of Word. Interesting to hear this comparison between Google Drive and Microsoft One Drive.
so students can work on their documents off line and it will automatically save to their Word Online? did I understand that correctly?
I understood that it synchs in the cloud
but they open the doc in Word, so not sure, do they have to upload the new doc?
do you know if the students have actually seen the conversations in the forum?
love it! Benjamin takes pictures of things on the board to post online later to help the students 🙂 great idea!
this is such a great model and shows what close personal relationships are possible with instructors like Benjamin and Piry! Such great communication!
it’s great that students can help each other in the class conversations by being so transparent!
what happens with all of the student work/forums etc. after they leave the university? will they still be able to access everything they saved in One Drive or would they have to pay to subscribe to continue to access documents?
I also loved that Benjaming takes pics of boardnotes
aha! they can choose whether they want to edit in Word or Word Online
great job explaining this Benjamin!!!
Pity – I’m going to have to drop out – thought I would have liked to see what Benjamin can share with us (we who are outside the system)
absolutely!!!!
It will be in the recording and we’ll post links here. So far all links posted in this chat have remained here forever
I’ll check back here later …. please say thanks for me …. bye all
I need to work on getting presenters in chatwing, set up and ready to go, prior to the show 🙂 (note to self_
very similar to Google Drive! Excellent demo of this!
I’m sure that’s a challenge, Vance because of the required bandwidth.
would the students have to personally pay for Office 365 after they leave the university to be able to continue to access those documents?
this has been REALLY informative! I’ve learned a lot! Thank you so much for providing this webinar!!
I say the same guys inspired and happy to hear about all of this! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you Benjamin, Piry and Vance! 🙂
so impressed with the very thoughtful way your university is approaching the adoption of these tools!
great points about the portfolios!
Once they leave university they´ve already got a backpack of evidence of work they´ve done, a live cv
I was also a teacher education professor after I was a principal 🙂 So great to be here with all of you!
Would be good if portfolios can imported for students to take away
Time flew!
Thank you so much for another interesting session
Thanks for checking on the availability of the blog 🙂 Will look forward to seeing it if that becomes possible!
Very nice to meet you Peggy and Piry
thanks very much for joining us
Excellent webinar!
you were all a very present part of our conversation
thanks again for coming
