The audio features a distance presentation by Anthony Cashin speaking via Skype from Australia on how to successfully implement iPads in an educational setting from an administrative point of view. We were not recording, unfortunately, when Mary Kay Polly gave her very interesting talk about using Minecraft with her students e.g. getting them to justify their use of Minecraft as a means of meeting curriculum goals.

On Sunday June 28 Vance was in Philadelphia with comely colleagues from work Dani Coelho, Nery Alvarado, and Ellen Dougherty, to give a pre-conference workshop called iPadagogy: A Bloomin’ Better Way to Teach, live from ISTE Philadelphia 2015

Dani Coelho, Nery Alvarado, Vance Stevens, and  Ellen Dougherty

We set the tone: A Portuguese, a Mexican, an American, and a Canadian turn up at a conference, and …

having traveled all the way from Al Ain UAE converge in Philadelphia to trot out their internationally acclaimed dog and pony show on iPadagogy: A Bloomin’ Better Way to Teach. The hangout recording starts as the workshop begins. Without knowing how long we’d be able to sustain it, we tried to convey some of  the flavor of ISTE 2015 in Philadelphia and as best we could to try to bring an international audience into the event.

Where? Google Hangout on Air

The first part of this event was recorded as a Hangout on Air (HoA). Vance had set up a laptop PC to manage the stream and was walking around the room with an iPad that was participating in the event and recording video and audio. The hub PC was muted and Vance was using earbuds on the iPad to prevent remote participants in the HoA from intruding on the live session (but they could interact with Vance and Vance could interact with them sotto voce but that interaction appears in the recording). Surprisingly the bandwidth held out and the experiment worked in concept, though the next stage will clearly need to address managing the handheld iPad camera movement. If you get dizzy then the mp3 recording is worth listening to.

Vance’s contribution was entitled Teaching writing on iPads and other voice-enabled mobile devices

Here are the …

Global Education Day at ISTE 2015, June 28th

Join Lucy Gray, Steve Hargadon, VIF International Education and many members of the Global Education Conference community on Sunday, June 28th from 2-5 PM at the Philadelphia Convention Center (Room 103BC) for a special face-to-face meeting in which you can connect and collaborate with other globally-minded educators.

Here is some follow-up from Steve Hargadon on the June 28th for Global Education Day meet up for those interested in globally connective opportunities for teachers and students.

An exciting time was had by all, and it was particularly wonderful to see so many GEC friends gather from around the globe. Thank you to all who were able to attend and we are particularly indebted to the many people who shared their expertise through ignite talks, roundtable discussions and cool tool sharing. For a full list of these participants and their contact information, please see our agenda for the day.

Here is a quick list of related resources that you may want to browse:

Also, take a look at these excellent blog post reflections from Elizabeth Calhoon and Michelle Cordy. These recaps will give you an idea of what transpired on GED. Let us know if you write a reflection piece, too!

Again, thanks to all who participated in GED. We are particularly grateful to VIF and to ISTE!
