Mon Apr 28 2:00 ET – The Role of Badges in Alternative Credentialing

Monday, April 28, 2-3:00 ET: The Role of Badges in Alternative Credentialing – In response to specific employer/industry requirements and the particular needs of the adult learner, interest in new approaches to credentialing is on the rise. In December, 2013, the U.S. Dept. of Education issued a notice inviting suggestions for new experiments for the Experimental Sites Initiative. The notice expressed particular interest in competency-based education programs and prior learning assessment for postsecondary education. This session will investigate various ways that open badges provide the basis for alternative credentialing programs.

A Google calendar of upcoming shows is available athttp://live.classroom20.com/calendar.html.

Join us on Saturday, May 3rd, when our special guest will be Swaroop Raju, eduCanon Co-Founder” who will introduce us to the amazing teaching resource, eduCanon! eduCanon is an online learning environment to build and share interactive video lessons. Teachers begin with any YouTube, Vimeo, or TeacherTube video content (screencasts, LearnZillion, Khan Academy, Minute Physics, TED, NOVA, etc.) and transform what is traditionally passive content into an active experience for students. By time-linking activities that students engage with as the video progresses the content is segmented into digestible components – increasing student engagement and, through our real-time monitoring, informing the next day’s lesson planning. Teachers have used the eduCanon interface in class as a blended tool, assigned students an eduCanon lesson as homework in a flipped setting, and even asked students to create their own eduCanon lesson as a higher-Bloom’s project! eduCanon is flexible to suit the resources and teaching style of your classroom. eduCanon is a FREE web app that works on all major browsers. It works on Macs, PCs, and is even responsive to iPads. You can even embed it into your website or blog!
