There was recently a thread on the Webheads list asking about tools for emulating language lab software. Here is the first post in that thread and the most recent.

Larry Ferlazzo has a comprehensive list (from 2008) of speaking tools, still worth having a look at

ANVILL has come up more than once in this thread, always in very positive light, and there has been interest expressed in our group in asking Jeff Magoto if he would come talk to us on Learning2gether. He graciously agreed.

Where? Blackboard Collaborate (Elluminate)

Recording on Bb Collaborate / Elluminate

What we might talk about? In Jeff’s words …

ANVILL’s at a nice fork in the virtual road right now, so I’d enjoy talking with the Learning2gether group about

  • what it’s been for the last 5 years and hopefully where it’s headed as an LTI product (running inside Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai, etc).
  • The best link for folks to have a look ahead of time is probably either this screencast or this overview
  • Here are a couple of short articles that will give you a sense of what ANVILL attempts to do for speech in the language classroom in particular, and hybrid learning in general.

If you can glance over the readings you might enjoy the session more but all interested parties are welcome with or without having done the homework.
