Learning2gether Episode 225
Randall Sadler on Holodecks: Sun Jul 6 Edunation Language Community EdLC event in Second Life, hosted by Heike Philp
On Sunday I, Vance had just arrived in Brussels to attend the Antwerp CALL 2014 conference. As my travel plans had been uncertain I didn’t have any particular plans for Learning2gether on this day, but I had the great pleasure of attending this live event in Second Life, which would have been after midnight where I live in UAE but occurred late evening in Belgium.
In this event I had the great pleasure of following Randall Sadler through his demonstration of holodeck software he is using and what he can do with it in Second Life. The workshop was pitched at people with greater skills in SL than mine, but it was fascinating observing the potential of being able to change your surroundings at a whim, and to follow the crowd as the avatars marveled at the incredible builds.
Dr. Randall Sadler on using Holodecks with Language Learners in SL
Hopefully, we’ll find an embed of the recording of this event to place here.
Randall Sadler has given numerous presentations on this topic recently; for example, on June 4 this year he gave a presentation with the following description:
Holodecks–a Users and Builders introduction. This workshop will introduce to holodecks and take you step-by-step how you create your own scene using the Horizons Holodeck System. (If you want to package your own builds during the workshop, please buy either the Horizons Multi-Scene Rezzer Home Edition or the Horizons Multi-Scene Rezzer Pro Version before the workshop–both available on Second Life Marketplace.
